Living Lands and Water

Barge living, relentless about cleaning up Midwest waterways

During the America River Roots Festival held in Cincinnati, The Coughlin Foundation took part through the environmental charity Living Lands and Waters, whose team members live on their barge navigating river cleanups, watershed conservation initiatives, workshops, tree plantings and other key conservation efforts along major midwest rivers.

Impressively, the organization has removed 14 million pounds of garbage from rivers since inception. With the help of volunteers, the Saturday afternoon before the River Roots Festival, the team (pictured) removed 100 tires from the Ohio River. Throughout the entire festival, visitors were welcomed aboard the barge to learn about what it takes to keep rivers clean. Our Foundation appreciates the quantitative nature of Living Lands and Waters that shares they've also purged 168 fire extinguishers, 31 safes, 19 hot tubs, 4 pianos, and much more.
